Author Guideline

Gontor AGROTECH Science Journal (GASJ) accepts scientific articles written in English or Indonesian, following standard academic writing rules. GASJ is published twice a year (June and December), covering agricultural disciplines including integrated agriculture, soil science, agronomy, crop cultivation, agrotechnology, plant protection, Islamic perspectives in agriculture, and related fields.

Accepted submission types include original research articles, review articles, short communications, and novel concepts relevant to the journal’s scope.

  1. Article Structure

Manuscripts should be organized as follows:

  • Title
  • Author name(s) and affiliation(s)
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)
  • References
  1. Title
  • Must be concise, informative, and reflect the research contents.
  • Provided in both English and Indonesian (the second language is italicized).
  • The primary title is written in UPPERCASE/CAPS LOCK, while the secondary title uses Capitalize Each Word.
  • Font: Palatino Linotype 12 pt, Bold, Centered, Single-spaced.
  1. Authors and Affiliations
  • Author names must be written without academic titles using Capitalize Each Word (Palatino Linotype 11 pt, single-spaced).
  • Authorship order must correspond to individual contributions and have full approval from all co-authors.
  • Affiliations are listed on the line below in Palatino Linotype 10 pt.

              ○ University affiliations: Include department/study program, university, full address, and country.
              ○ Corporate/Institutional affiliations: Include organization name and full address.

  • Indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and provide their email address.
  1. Abstract
  • Provided in both English and Indonesian, with the primary language of the text appearing first.
  • Font: Times New Roman 9 pt, Justified, Single-spaced.
  • Maximum length: 250 words.
  • Summarizes background/aims, methodology, main results, and conclusions.
  • Must not contain reference citations.
  • Must include corresponding author details and full institutional address.
  1. Keywords
  • Maximum of 5 words or key phrases (Palatino Linotype 9 pt).
  • Must be relevant to the manuscript and avoid excessive repetition of words already present in the title.
  1. Main Body Text
  • Font: Palatino Linotype 11 pt, Single-spaced, Justified.
  • Introduction: Covers research background, problem statement, literature review, research gap, objectives, hypotheses (if applicable), and expected contribution/significance. Assertions derived from prior literature must be cited properly.
  • Materials and Methods: Clearly describes research methodologies to allow reproducibility. Includes study site and timeline, materials and equipment, experimental design, treatments and variables, procedures, data collection, and statistical methods.
  • Results and Discussion: Presented systematically, concisely, and argumentatively.
  • Results should be supported by empirical data; discussion interprets findings in relation to underlying theories and prior research. Use tables, figures, and statistical analyses appropriately. Avoid redundant presentation of the same data.
  • Conclusion: Directly addresses the research objectives based on the findings and discussion. Must be concise and clear. Avoid claims not supported by empirical results.
  1. Word Count

            Original research manuscripts should generally range between 3,000 and 6,000 words (excluding abstract, keywords, tables, figures, and references). Review articles and short communications may adapt word counts according to their scope.

  1. Tables
  • Numbered consecutively and cited within the body text.
  • Each table must have a clear, informative title.
  • Present data concisely; avoid duplicate reporting.
  • Units of measurement must be consistent.
  • Statistical parameters (e.g., SD, SE, p-values) should be included in footnotes/explanations where applicable.
  1. Figures
  • Numbered consecutively and cited within the text.
  • Must include clear captions.
  • Format: High-resolution JPEG or TIFF.
  • Charts and graphs must clearly display axis labels, units, legends, and statistical indications.
  1. Statistical Analysis

 When statistical procedures are used, authors must:

  • Describe procedures clearly in the Materials and Methods section.
  • Align methods with experimental design and data characteristics.
  • Report significance levels clearly (e.g., p < 0.05).
  • Maintain consistency across text, tables, and figures.
  • Explain letters/symbols indicating significant differences in tables or figures.
  1. Scientific Nomenclature
  • Taxonomic names must follow standard scientific nomenclature codes.
  • Genus and species names are italicized (e.g., Capsicum frutescens L.).
  • Full scientific names must be written at first mention; standard abbreviations may be used subsequently if clear.
  • Units and scientific symbols must remain consistent throughout.
  1. Citations and Reference Style
  • GASJ uses the Harvard citation style.
  • Every source cited in the text must appear in the references list, and vice versa.
  • Arrange references alphabetically by the primary author's surname.
  • Authors are responsible for bibliographic accuracy, including author names, publication year, title, journal name, volume, issue, page numbers, and DOIs where applicable

    Reference Managers

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software (such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote) to maintain consistency.

Recognize funding bodies, supporting institutions, or technical assistance that does not meet authorship criteria. Persons mentioned must grant permission to be acknowledged.
