Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a strategic commodity that plays an important role in the global economy, especially in Indonesia. The success of this crop production is largely determined by the quality of seedlings in the early nursery phase, which influences vegetative growth and future yield potential. This study aims to analyze the effect of Trichoderma and NPK fertilizer applications on oil palm seedling growth, and to evaluate the interaction of the two treatments in determining the optimal dose combination. The study was conducted using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors, namely Trichoderma (0, 20, and 40 g/seedling) and NPK fertilizer (0, 0.5, and 1 g/seedling), with three replications. The parameters observed included plant height and number of leaves at 4–10 weeks after planting (WAP). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at the 5% level, followed by descriptive analysis. The results showed that NPK fertilizer had a significant effect on increasing plant height (p < 0.05) with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.58, while Trichoderma did not show a significant effect partially. The interaction between Trichoderma and NPK had a significant effect on plant height (R² = 0.62; p = 0.032), but was not significant on the number of leaves. The growth of the number of leaves tended to be stable and did not show significant differences between treatments. NPK fertilizer played a dominant role in increasing the vegetative growth of oil palm seedlings, especially plant height, while Trichoderma functioned as a supporting factor that increased growth efficiency through biological mechanisms. Thus, the combination of inorganic fertilizers and biological agents has the potential to be developed as a more sustainable nursery strategy, although optimization of dosages and application conditions is required to obtain maximum synergistic effects.
